Meaning “Small Oaks” in Spanish, this coastal, casual and laid-back suburban city boasts several bars, ethnic restaurants, beautiful beaches, wildlife and parks. The San Elijo Lagoon Reserve boasts the largest coastal wetland in San Diego County and is home to nearly 300 different bird species throughout the year. In addition, declared as “The Flower Capital of the World,” Encinitas has several unique nurseries and gardens, most extensive of which is the San Diego Botanic Garden, who is the leading grower of the Christmas flower, the Poinsettia. Encinitas also boasts great surfing conditions all year long making it a hotspot for surfers from all over the world to compete in local surfing tournaments. Effectively, Moonlight Beach regularly shows up at the top of the list of “Best Beach” rankings in the world alongside Swami’s Beach, which features public art displays, gorgeous views and world class waves. Downtown Encinitas has several renowned yoga centers, Artisan and hipster coffee shops as well as spiritual stores containing healing crystals, jewelry, art and metaphysical books.
